(10) "Technology is a necessary evil." Do you agree?

First of all, technology is not an evil by itself! It is in fact how scientists and other governmental officials choose to employ technology to their own advantage that really causes technology to be seen as "evil" due to its morally and ethically-objectionable usages.

Secondly, why would an evil be necessary? Though you might think that some things require a balance of both sides (good and bad), this might not be the case for technology. Take for example gene technology used to create designer babies is actually useless. Since there is already in-vitro, why is there a need to personally design your perfect baby?

Thirdly, and lastly, this question purposely tries to perplex even seasoned GP essay writers like those pros from 09S72. "Technology is a necessary evil" actually translates into "Are there more advantages or disadvantages of technology?" Why do the question setters have to phrase it so cunningly such that a question that is originally so simple becomes so frustrating to think about?
